It’s interesting how quickly the world changes.

Language shifts.
Culture shifts.
Expectations shift.

And if we’re honest, sometimes we don’t resist it because we can’t keep up.

We resist it because it makes us uncomfortable.

I received a text the other day that said:

ICYMI.

I stared at it.

My first thought was, ICE is on the way?

I had no clue what it meant. I had to Google it.

In Case You Missed It.

Duh, Damon.

Why didn’t I know that?
Why not just write the whole thing?

Then it hit me.

This is the age we’re in.

We don’t write anymore. We text.
We shorten. We compress.
We move fast because everything moves fast.

So I did a little research.

There are close to 100 common shorthand text acronyms.

L8R = Later
OATUS = On a totally unrelated subject
STFU = You already know
TL;DR = Too long; didn’t read

The list goes on.

For a second, I caught myself thinking, maybe I’m behind.

Maybe I’m getting old.

But then I realized something.

Sometimes the cape we wear isn’t about carrying more.
It’s about holding on to what’s comfortable.

The discomfort isn’t really about texting shortcuts.

It’s about realizing the world doesn’t pause while we decide whether we like the changes.

Maybe the real question isn’t “Am I getting old?”

Maybe it’s, “Where am I resisting growth because it feels uncomfortable?”

Growth always feels uncomfortable at first.

The question is whether we’re willing to adjust
or whether we’d rather pretend the world should slow down for us.

What’s one area where you might be holding on a little too tightly?
