There’s a kind of pressure that doesn’t show up on resumes or calendars.

It’s the pressure of being relied on.
Of being the decision-maker.
Of carrying responsibility quietly so things don’t fall apart.

Most people don’t call it burnout.
They just say they’re tired. Or distracted. Or “off.”

If that’s you, this space is for you.

I spent years believing that strength meant carrying more.

More responsibility.
More expectations.
More weight without letting anyone see it.

What I’ve learned since is this:

Burnout doesn’t usually come from doing too little.
It comes from carrying too much alone for too long.

Taking the cape off doesn’t mean quitting.
It means choosing clarity over constant pressure.
It means learning what’s yours to carry and what isn’t.

That shift changes how you lead, decide, and show up.

I created Taking the Cape Off as a place to slow the conversation down.

Not to motivate.
Not to hustle.
Not to fix anyone.

Just to name what many people feel but rarely say out loud and offer perspective that helps you breathe a little easier.

Each week, I’ll share:

  • a short reflection

  • an idea from the book or podcast

  • something I’m noticing in conversations with people who carry responsibility

Nothing heavy.
Nothing performative.

Just honest perspective.

If this resonated, I’d invite you to stay.

Join the Taking the Cape Off newsletter a short weekly note for people who carry a lot and want to do it differently.
