Taxes up or down.
Economy up or down.
DEI gone or was it ever here.
Employment up.
Massive layoffs up.
These were the words used last week.
Trust me.
I am not fact checking.
I am not picking a side.
But depending on where you are in life, those words hit differently.
If you own assets, you hear opportunity.
If you just lost your job, you hear fear.
If you are climbing, you hear momentum.
If you are tired, you hear pressure.
Same speech.
Different reality.
Words carry weight.
We use them when we are happy.
We use them when we are hurting.
But the ones that linger are usually the heavy ones.
That is not weakness.
That is your brain trying to protect you.
So how do you find the steady place?
Is there a middle?
Yes.
It is the cape.
Some of us wear a cape to shield ourselves from negativity.
We protect our peace.
We filter the noise.
We guard our energy.
But sometimes the same cape that protects us becomes kryptonite.
When we wear it too tight, we stop listening.
When we wear it too long, we stop feeling.
When we wear it to prove something, we stop being ourselves.
Maybe the real State of the Union is not Washington, DC.
Maybe it is the union between your mind and your heart.
Are they aligned?
Are they at war?
Are you reacting or responding?
The headlines will keep coming.
But you do not have to let them live in your spirit.
Cape on when needed.
Cape off when necessary.
Not defense.
Not detachment.
Boundary.
Protecting your peace
Without losing your perspective
Is emotional maturity.
And that is what Taking the Cape Off is really about.
Not ignoring the world.
Not escaping reality.
But choosing how much of it you allow to sit in your spirit.
The real State of the Union begins within.
Cape Off Question to Ponder
What words have you allowed to define your emotional state this week and do they deserve that authority?
